About the project
Society and with that the environment are constantly evolving. For example, residential areas that arise further from the city or village center or new companies, schools, and shopping centers at a distance from the residential areas. Another development is the arrival of fast bicycles such as the electric bicycle and the speed pedelec and larger bicycles such as (electric) cargo bikes. Traditionally, there is a lot of cycling in Twente, but continued attention for the bicycle and the cycle paths is important. Also because the bicycle is a popular, environmentally friendly and healthy means of transport for young and old.
Unique project puts Overijssel on the map
Higher speeds and more people on bicycles place different demands on the cycle paths. The F35 is a wide and fast cycle path with few intersections, but with sufficient connections to the center of cities and villages, residential areas, companies, or leisure activities. The bicycle highway meets today’s needs and promotes the use of the bicycle as a means of transport. Especially when it comes to short or medium distances, the bicycle is a good and healthy alternative to the car and we stimulate that with the F35. It is a unique project in the Netherlands. There is a lot of interest from abroad for the F35 and in 2019 the ANWB declared the F35 the best national connection in the Netherlands. With this, Overijssel has put itself on the map and we are quite proud of it.

Planning
Het streven is om de gehele F35 uiterlijk 2025 uitgevoerd te hebben. Dit onder voorwaarde dat de financiering rond komt. Op dit moment is er nog een flink tekort op het benodigde budget. De planning hangt ook af van ontwerp-, participatie- en planologische procedures.
Masterplan
The first F35 Master Plan was drawn up in 2009. It lists the 8 benefits of cycling. A schedule of requirements has been included to design a safe, comfortable, and virtually non-stop cycling route.
Quality
We aim for high quality. Not only is the F35 a 4.60-meter wide cycle path, but the red asphalt is also comfortable and the route is equipped with lighting. The route is largely clear of the main car lane.
Innovations & sustainability
Innovations and sustainability are of paramount importance in the construction of the F35. The bicycle highway is one of the first inter-municipal bicycle highways in the Netherlands.
